When a friend calls you and says “I pulled something out of the trash for you”, you just say thank you. You never know when someone else’s trash is going to become a treasure. In this case this nondescript hodgepodge of wood became a cute functional coffee table!
I started out with the round top and square base. The first thing I did was use a little wood putty to fill in the screw holes.
Once that was dry I gave the base a good sanding. I added a few coats of white paint but it still looked a little unfinished. Luckily I have an endless supply of scrap wood. So I used some 1×2 pieces to add a frame around the edges. This hid the unfinished plywood edges and gave it a much cleaner look.
The next step was to add a top. I used two 1x4x8’s to make the top.
I attached them to the round top on the table then used a jig saw to cut the circle. I gave the entire top a good coat of stain and it looked great.
The table was still missing something so I used a few scrap pieces of 1×4’s to add a little shelf.
A set of inexpensive casters from Lowes and a little distressing on the paint and this little table was ready to go!
With a few hours of work and about $10 I was able to turn this trash into something cute and functional. So the next time you are passing by the trash you might want to stop and take a look!
